Watercolor painting of Michael Gerome Stewart in reds, blues, greens, purples, and browns

Michael Gerome Stewart

This piece was created on Procreate and released to Instagram for its initial publication.

"Michael Stewart was an aspiring model and artist in Manhattan.  He was beaten brutally by police officers who found him creating graffiti art at a subway station.  He died in the hospital 13 days after his arrest, having arrived brutally beaten and blue.  The coroner’s report revealed three different findings,  the first of which stated that Stewart had died of excessive drinking and drugging, resulting in a heart attack.  Stewart's family refused the first findings citing that it was a part of a cover-up.  It prompted a long legal battle that still resulted in the officers responsible for his death being cleared of responsibility for his death.  Michael Stewart's life mattered.  His family matters.  His art and potential mattered."

Handwritten, cursive signature says "pea flower tea" in lowercase letters. The flower is a small sketch of a bloom, instead of the word for "flower".
