Watercolor painting of Eula Mae Love rendered in oranges, pinks, and teals.

Eula Mae Love

This piece was created on Procreate and released to Instagram for its initial publication.

Eula Mae Love was shot and killed by the LAPD in 1979 over an overdue energy bill. She was widowed some months before, and was trying to take care of her children as a newly found sole provider. Reports indicate she was visibly distressed and may have had a knife. The mental load she would have been carrying through that grief, losing her husband to Sickle Cell, should have warranted her social care, and not force. Her life mattered. Her children matter. Nobody should die over a late utility bill.”

Handwritten, cursive signature says "pea flower tea" in lowercase letters. The flower is a small sketch of a bloom, instead of the word for "flower".
