Henry Dumas

This piece was created on Procreate and released to Instagram for its initial publication.

“Henry Dumas was a poet who wrote about black People being murdered by the police before he also was murdered by the police. His poetry was posthumously praised by Toni Morrison about six years after a white officer shot Dumas in the chest in 1968. Little is known, even know, what happened or why. I honor his life the only way I know how- through art.  Say his name. Henry Dumas, your life mattered.”

Handwritten, cursive signature says "pea flower tea" in lowercase letters. The flower is a small sketch of a bloom, instead of the word for "flower".
